After attending mangrove planting in the series of World Mangrove Day on Pari Island, Kepulauan Seribu, Sunday (22/6), the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti met some fishermen around Muara Baru Jakarta. Interestingly, the ship encountered not only local vessels, but the fishing boats from Cirebon, West Java which uses 3 GT sized boats with gillnet fishing gear.

Fishermen is known catches especially shrimp quite a lot recently. That's what makes Cirebon fishermen willing to come all the way to Jakarta. In fact, four years later the shrimp are hard to find in the waters of Jakarta.
Not only fishing with boats, fishing activities on the edge of the ship is also crowded. Fishermen do not need all the way to the middle to catch fish. As they close to the beach they can also find fishes. Unlike a few years ago where they had to be far out to sea to get fish and shrimp.
Increased catch of fishermen in the islands of Jakarta proves that fish stocks have improved and returned a lot. With proper management, increased catches are expected to occur in other areas as well.
